A life has been saved

A life has been saved in Teignmouth.

A team of rowers, were taking part in the Teignmouth gig Regatta near Eastcliffe, when one of the rowers, Colin Beck, had heart failure.

Luckily, another person in the boat knew how to do CPR and used this until they got to shore.

The defib' at Eastcliffe was used twice on him whilst they waited for an ambulance. The young man was in his 30s and is extremely lucky.  Well done gig rowers for saving his life.

Although we have never met Colin we are delighted that our Community Defibrillator unit, situated outside the Yacht club at Teignmouth, was on hand to get his heart restarted.

The relevant press cuttings will be put into the photograph section of this blogsite (when I get someone to do it for me!)

Another defib' unit outside Seasports

Another defib' unit was installed outside Seasports on the river beach, near The Ship Inn and the Crab Shack.

Local MP Anne Marie Morris kindly agreed to cut the red ribbon for us.  She is a big supporter of defibrillator units and for teaching CPR in schools - something we have planned for 2015.

Several press were there and we had a good turnout.  Lots of uniformed people were to be seen - police; Coastwatch; ambulance, plus our charity team in their bright pink Tshirts. Thank you to everyone who came along.

We have some photographs that should be on the blogsite soon.

Coffee Morning Kits

Hello.  I am back again.  It looks like the blogs are actually being published at last.  Hurrah! The blogsite is behaving better than ever before (oops - don't speak too soon Shirley).

Coffee Morning Kits are being gathered together for anyone willing to hold a coffee morning for our charity.

The kits will contain 100 bespoke greeting cards, to sell at £1 each; a book of raffle tickets; leaflets; a suggestion sheet; a summary sheet.

The idea is that you hold a coffee morning in aid of 'Heartbeat' and invite your friends around for coffee and cake.  People I know, who did a similar thing for charity, charged £2.50 for a drink and choice of cake.

Encourage friends to 'bring a cake' and gather up unwanted gifts for raffle prizes.

If you are interested, please contact me. shirleyheartbeat@gmail.com or 07941585601

A young lady called Sophie has expressed a wish to help 'Heartbeat' so I am hoping she may take on the role as 'Coffee Morning Organiser'

Thank you

FINALLY!

Talking to my blog has proved impossible over the last few months - the computer has been crashing and I have been unable to sign in -  if I managed to 'get in' the script would not work.
My pc is on its last legs!

Anyway - no new pc yet but an added piece of software has helped. I have finally been able to sign in and write something - I have a lot of catching up to do. Apologies to all those lovely people who should have had thank yous on here.

Up-to-date photographs should be added soon (when I find someone to do it for me).  Also, it  has been suggested that we go onto Facebook.

I will sign out now and check that this actually has been posted on the blog, then I will be back to update you on any news.
